11/9/08- Sakonnet Vineyards, in Little Compton, RI, moments before sunset yesterday. The grapes are already in wooden casks, but thousands of plants in 218 rows form a neat picture nonetheless.

The winery was "founded in 1975 on the well-researched premise that the microclimate and soil conditions found along the Southeastern New England coast closely resemble some of the great wine regions of the world, particularly, the maritime climates of northern France. At present, fifty acres are planted with many Vinifera varietals including Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc as well as Vidal Blanc one of the French-American hybrids. Wine production has climbed to over 30,000 cases annually with many wines receiving awards in domestic and international competitions."

Don't mind if I do! Beautiful! I'm in Sonoma County (wine country). This looks like home!

Nice! Looks like home to me also. This is what I see every time I pull into the parking lot where I work. The Finger Lakes Wine appellation has grown by leaps and bounds during the past 30 years, for many of the same reasons quoted here. The winery I work at produces about 80,000 cases a year, and is just one of roughly 100 in the region. C'mon down and try some of our fine wines!
