March 29, 2006 total eclipse of the Sun in northwest Egypt , near the city of Al Sallum, half a mile from Libya's border. Canon EOS 350D @ Sigma 400mm This was my 23rd solar eclipse, my 10th Total solar . So far it also was my longest, almost 4 minutes. My shortest has been 2002 in Australia, it lasted only 29 seconds. In summer 2009 the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century will pass over southern China (Shanghai included) and south of Japan, over IwoJima.... the homeland of Zen !
