In late 1980, friends of mine asked me to drive them to a Rose Parade tryout to be tall flags in the Tournament Band. I stayed and learned the routine becaue I had nothing better to do until I could take them home after the tryouts. Try outs were in pairs and there was an odd number of participants so, I was asked to stand in.

Hundreds tried out over three days and 45 would be chosen for the squad.
I drove them to get the results a week later and was surprised to learn that I made the squad, but my friends didn’t.

On New Years Day 1981, there I was long before the crack of dawn in tuxedo tails wearing dance panties and fishnet stockings prepared to begin the march of seven and a half miles down Colorado Boulevard with friends screaming from the sidewalk.

The button is from the first time I voted for a president, Mondale/Ferraro 1984.

The Disneyland tickets are from the first time I took my daughter on February 13, 1988. The ticket price was $19.25, a child under three was free.

The napkin was from a Dodger game against the Astros to clinch the National League Division Series Game 5 on October 11, 1981. It was the best game I have ever! When it became clear that the Dodgers would win the stadium erupted in napkin rain. I remember my friend and I running to the snack stand to collect napkins to throw over the railings. That night on the news it looked like it was snowing in the stadium. I kept that one napkin by accident because it was awkwardly jammed in my pocket. The Dodgers went on the beat the Expos for the NL Championship and the Yankees to win the Series.
