Sunset Ride...from my lap!
Captured while sitting on a bench at the northern end of Pacific Beach, San Deigo California,
This young man walked in from the parking lot to join his friends who were already out in the surf at sunset. I had been shooting the occasional image of them when one would catch a particularly good wave.
My Canon 20D with a Canon EF 28-135mm IS lens had gone into sleep mode while sitting in my lap. When I realized that this young man would walk directly between my seat and the setting sun I had just enough time to wake the camera up with an initial touch on the shutter and then pull the trigger on this shot....but not enough time to pick the camera up and look through the veiw finder.
One VERY lucky shot. Had I not had to wake the camera up I would not have had the sun in the perfect position. Had I wasted the second it would have taken to bring it to my eye....he would have been long past the sweet spot for this type of composition.
So here is my submition to "Shoot from the Hip!"...or "Shoot from the lap"... as the case may be.
