Situated in the southeast quadrant of Arlington National Cemetery, this memorial includes the names of the 184 victims of the attack on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Debris from American Airlines flight 77 found its way to sections 69 and 70 at Arlington, not far from this pentagonal monument. Personally, I was disturbed by the fact that the memorial sits in the flight path of jets taking off from Reagan-National airport. Although its location adjacent the Pentagon seems somehow appropriate, it seems to me visitors would be disturbed by the engine noise, which certainly echoes that of the doomed flight.
