Big Face Pride 02

From the series "Extreme Close-up". A series of decontextualized street portraits taken in informal circumstances and with natural light, using a close-up as the main format to create uncomfortable results for the viewers. Photography may find its purest meaning in its ability to stop time, but in its ability to define identities there is a power similar to that of literature. Thus, this project is a way at looking "Portraiture" as landscapes, a catalogue networking of scenarios with unexpected placements or juxtapositions all related to the human condition but in unusual or provocative sequences that could refer to encounters of various sources such as gender contrasts, diversity issues, and different states of emotions. This portrait was taken in the streets of Mexico City during the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Pride Parade (June 2008). The series confronts some of the cultural and social stereotypes underlying gender, opting to focus on the beauty, sensitivity and vulnerabilities found in the transgender community.
