My dad's dog, Bodie. He's epileptic, has cataracts now, and doesn't hear very well anymore. But, he loves life, running outside, sitting in your lap. And, as you can see, his eyes light up whenever you say "Num-Num"!

you asked for examination and criticism. okay here we go ;-)
first thing I noticed was a slight blur in this pic. what kind of portrait of this pet did you want? A "beautifiul", "realistic" or "vivid"?
You wrote "he loves life, running outside, sitting in your lap" If you want to express that kind of behavior why haven't you shot him in a situation like this?
I read about his infirmity and how he nevertheless seems to enjoy life. Then why don't you dare to expose his appearance? Show the grandeur of this old boy by letting him be. This approach looks a little bit"stuffed" in my opinion.
I would consider me a beginner myself so I don't fancy to be a good critic that are just my two cents and I'd rather read some criticism (no matter in which direction) on my own pics instead of the average "wonderful", "lovely" or "nice" comments.
