The pretty amazing open ventilation shaft in this disused railway tunnel in Gildersome, West Yorkshire.
Nearly a mile in to this point and the first source of natural light in about 3 hours underground... we totaled about 4 full hours in the darkness carefully picking our footings as we were walking through thick wellington deep orange mud and water for the most of it.
Well worth the pilgrimage as not many will have stood here since the tunnel was closed in 1966!
