A devotee with hooks pierced directly into his flesh. Six men restrain the tranced devotee by securing the other end of the ropes. In a state of trance, devotees attain superhuman strengths.

Thaipusam is celebrated by millions around the world and has its roots in ancient Hundu pracitses.
