Something for Greg and Barbara

Have you ever met someone and immediately liked them the second they said Hi? Have you ever known someone through story or simply by the memory and recolection of someone else? Then, when you met them it was if you have known them your entire life? Greg is a friend of my wife, he was her High School English teacher. I have heard all kinds of stories about Greg over the years. Recently, Greg fell ill and has been in the hospital for quite sometime while on the mend. During our trip to Reno, we had the opportunity to meet Greg and his wife Barbara. The love in the room between the two was something that fairytales are written of. While Greg lay there hearing stories and engaging in brief conversation he took a moment to tell me how much he liked the pictures I take. This both caught me by surprise and made me feel fantastic at the same time. Here is this man who clearly has more important things to focus on, yet he took a moment to pass on that encouragement and praise that good teachers do. It literally made my day as I had no idea he had even seen any of my work. During the conversation, I noticed all the pictures of his family in the room and those of he and his wife. She fondly told stories of their annual Christmas picture. One in particular was taken at Lake Tahoe. It was then that I decided to go up there and try and take a shot just for them of this place that held pleasant memories. This is the shot. I did the best I could to find the place they were speaking of, I don’t think this is the exact spot (and it was getting dark) but this is the shot from Tahoe I took just for them.
Get well soon Greg.

Dave, this is an extraordinary photo. I am actually envious that I wasn’t there to take pictures. You are thoughtful about your images and know well how to take advantage of light.

This is one of my favorite pics of Lake Tahoe. The pink and blue colors of the calm water create a wonderful mood. This is a fine example of how an image reflects the photographer's spirit.

The long exposure gives the water a wonderful stillness to reflect the light. A moving image and story.
