I took this to honor my friend Derrick [the boy in all of these photos], who was in the hospital at the time. I originally submitted it to the Heroes theme, but i feel it is more appropriate for Nostalgia.
Derrick is 17 now, but ive known him since the day he was born, last year he was diagnosed with brain cancer. the attempted removal of the tumor led to heart failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and diabetes. he spent over 3 months in the hospital in stanford. the tumor was finally removed, with a few minor complications. He's finished with chemo and radiation now, and has returned to his usual life.
His strength and courage is an inspiration to me and everyone who knows him.
