Found this item on the old homestead of some friends at Cape Cod. Am told it is hollowed out; and turned over it is a container where corn was hand-mashed or ground in a traditional Cape Verdian way (these folks have roots in Cape Verde). Not a farm boy myself, I may have misunderstood the function.
