Photo guidelines
JPG is about mostly unmodified photos. By "mostly unmodified" we mean you haven't deleted or composited elements in the photo. Keep it real, baby! (Enhancements to color and sharpness are fine, of course.)
That said, there are a few things to steer clear of:
Text overlays
Photos that contain visible watermarks or overlaid text will not be chosen for publication. That said, we know you want to protect your images from theft; Discreet copyright statements are okay — just remember that your photo is protected under copyright law, regardless. We suggest embedding your copyright information as EXIF metadata, instead.
Obnoxious borders
We don't mind if you add a thin border to your photo to frame it, but we may remove the border if your photo is selected for publication.
Digital enlargements
We only accept photos that are at least 2200px wide or tall. This is so your photos look good in print! Please don't digitally enlarge your photos to meet this requirement, as it lowers the image quality dramatically.
Things that aren't photos
Please do not upload graphic art, paintings, illustrations, screenshots and the like.
Pornography
We're okay with artful nudes; however, sexually explicit work is not appropriate. We defer to the community's discretion in determining what is artful, gratuitous or explicit. Objectionable content may be flagged using the 'Report a problem' link on the photo page.
So what do we want?
We want your best photos. Your favorite photos. Photos that you look at and think, "You know, there's something really special about this one!" Above all, let's make the JPG experience enjoyable for everyone.
